About our centre

The Bergbron Study Centre seeks to find the individual potential of each student through the directed planning and targeted instruction of the Kumon model. Kumon not only develops its students in Maths and English but also develops their study skills as well as builds their self-confidence. Students start at a level at which they are comfortable with and work at their own individual pace, enabling each student to leave each class with a sense of encouragement and confidence. All errors in their work are seen as opportunities for growth and development.

As Kumon Instructors we desire to develop a passion for maths and a hunger for reading in our students.

The Bergbron Study Centre opened its door in 2017. It operates from the Northcliff Hill nursery school where there is excellent security and ample parking. The centre is situated close to The Berg shopping centre, which parents are able to take advantage of while their children attend classes.

All the Instructors at Bergbron have gone through extensive Kumon training and bring an environment of caring and nurturing to the centre where students can reach their full potential.

Cristina Anderson

About your Instructor

My name is Cristina Anderson, I have been teaching maths to students on and off for the past 25 years. It always gave me a great thrill when a student first came to the understanding of a mathematical problem and realised that it was not as complex as they first thought. I have always assisted my students to overcome their fear of maths by teaching it in a way that they understand and which develops their self-confidence. I have taught each student as an individual progressing at their own pace.

I am a qualified Cost Accountant and have worked in a corporate environment for the last 30 years. I have always had a great belief in education and do not believe that you are ever too old to continue studying. Personally, I am still on my journey with my studies and will continue for many years to come.

Having come to a crossroad in my life, I felt the need to give back in a way that would make a difference. My choice was made easy with Kumon as it had all the principles that I believe in and so my new journey began as a Kumon Instructor. I now can develop students at their own level in a nurturing environment and watch as they grow in self-confidence, becoming independent and reaping the potential of their own hard work.

Frequently Asked Questions

Kumon is a self-learning programme with each student receiving regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, either in the centre or their online class, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.

Both, and every child in between. This is because of our individualised approach to education, which always asks the question: "What is best for this individual child?" Following a diagnostic test, a study plan is set to develop the ability of the child and to progress them beyond the Kumon International Standard (an international approximation of their school level) regardless of their starting point. Kumon welcomes students with special educational needs, gifted and talented children, and all those who believe they can achieve more and fulfil their potential.

Kumon offers much more than tutoring and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.

As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.

As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
