About this centre

The unique Kumon Maths and English Programmes pursue the potential of each child by developing confident, independent learners through individualised, advanced study.

The Durban North Study Centre was established in 1998 and until recently was a Kumon Office run centre. It is now run by a full-time Instructor, Lilian Reznerovic, an experienced educator, with the help of a team of dedicated assistants.

As the Kumon Programme caters for students of all ages and capabilities, Lilian would like to encourage enrollment of young students so as to allow these students to benefit from an individualised programme from a young age. This also assists in developing each student individually, helping them reach their full potential, while becoming independent, self-learners as soon as possible.

The centre is conveniently situated in Northway Shopping Centre, right at the entrance to the beautiful residential suburb of Durban North and very close to schools and shopping areas.

The Durban North Study Centre provides a warm and welcoming atmosphere, providing an excellent environment in which students thrive. There is a dedicated waiting area for parents. There is also ample, secure parking on the premises monitored by a security guard at all times.

About the Instructor

My name is Lilian Reznerovic and I am the Instructor of the Durban North Study Centre.

I have been involved in education for many, many years. I have worked in most fields of education, both as a teacher in South Africa as well as abroad. I have been a teacher in the classroom, a facilitator to special needs children, and a tutor to non-native speaking children as well as owned and managed my own aftercare business for 16 years.

For as long as I can remember I have wanted to be around children, either teaching them or counselling them. I am passionate about helping children develop into confident, independent human beings and I believe this can be done through the Kumon Maths and English Programmes by improving their literacy. My aim is to build their self-esteem and stimulate them to succeed in both English and Maths and this will be achieved by using the unique Kumon Method of Learning. To me there is nothing more rewarding than when a child who has been struggling to comprehend something all at once realises that the answer was staring him/her in the face all the time.

Communication is very important between the child, the parent and the Instructor. Whether you are a prospective parent or a parent who has been part of the Durban North Centre for a while, feel free to contact me.

I look forward to being part of the rewarding journey Kumon will take you and your child on, one in which he/she will potentially become an independent, successful young person.

Popular Questions

Students can start learning with Kumon from age two upwards. We currently have students as young as two years old studying with us, ranging all the way up to those about to go to university; Kumon helps children of any age and any ability. The sooner children begin, the earlier they can start developing skills to gain the greatest cumulative benefit; as soon as you feel your family is ready to make the commitment to long-term study, Kumon will be ready to help you achieve your goal.
Kumon offers much more than extra lessons and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.

As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.
Kumon is a self-learning programme with each student receiving regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, either in the centre or their online class, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.
Both, and every child in between. This is because of our individualised approach to education, which always asks the question: "What is best for this individual child?" Following a diagnostic test, a study plan is set to develop the ability of the child and to progress them beyond the Kumon International Standard (an international approximation of their school level) regardless of their starting point. Kumon welcomes students with special educational needs, gifted and talented children, and all those who believe they can achieve more and fulfil their potential.
As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
