KUMON CONNECT available
Did you know you can now study Kumon using digital worksheets? This study centre is proud to offer KUMON CONNECT. Click here for more details.

The centre operates from a large family house with a warm atmosphere in a friendly, residential suburb, creating a calm learning environment for students. Ample free parking is available.

Linden opened in 1996 and offers both maths and English to students as young as two years of age, right up to grandparents.

Instructor Doctor Nettie de Jongh’s experience as an Educational Psychologist provides a professionally run haven for students of all abilities to reach their potential, whether they are intellectually gifted, cognitively challenged, or in-between.

Our team of well-trained, caring and experienced staff comprises of 6 permanent and 16 part-time staff members.  Dedicated assistants deal with early learners, newly enrolled students, high level maths students and high level English students. There is also a separate Reading room.

Class times, days and venues are extremely flexible, allowing Linden, Blackheath and Parkview students to alternate their class attendance and times between any of the three centres, over a possible 6 days.

My Kumon Linden centre is open on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays; my Blackheath centre on Tuesdays and Fridays, and my Parkview centre on Wednesdays and Fridays. Attendance between these three centre venues can be arranged at your convenience.

A Kumon Mom at the Linden Study Centre says: "Kumon Linden is our extended family of life values, where the subjects are Mathematics and English and the medium of instruction is integrity, discipline, independent thinking, curiosity, consistency and hard-work. Nettie’s Kumon Linden/Parkview/Blackheath centres have taught my children beyond the ‘what’ of these subjects - they are learning logic, deduction and inference. I was in awe of the Kumon Programme and particularly impressed when my 5 year old, who couldn’t physically attend classes due to the lockdown, was able to progress to the next level independently through deductive reasoning and inference! I had to capture the moment when he said ‘Kumon makes me smart and makes me think!’ Kumon Linden is also addictive – my kids just want to do all the books at once. I sometimes use it as a stick - you won’t go to Kumon unless you pack away your toys. Thank you Nettie and your team for teaching my kids life values and giving them confidence."

About the Instructor

My name is Nettie de Jongh. I have been a practising Educational Psychologist since 1988 and a Kumon Instructor since 1996.  I am privileged to have two career paths which complement each other perfectly… my experience as an Educational Psychologist providing me with invaluable expertise and an understanding of how to use the Kumon Maths and English Programmes as a tool to effectively empower students, interacting with them so that they become independent, confident self-learners who fulfil their potential, simultaneously developing their ability at Maths, and/or reading comprehension.

Ever since I remember, I have had a passion for developing children, for maths and for reading, enjoying the challenge to motivate and stimulate learners of all abilities.  My two post-graduate degrees in education focused on improving my knowledge and understanding of learning, and specifically of reading-between-the lines.
Because my own children were intellectually strong, I wanted to implement in my practice an educational programme that would benefit strong students, as well as assisting students who experience difficulty with Maths /English.

That was when I discovered Kumon... and our whole family’s lives have never been the same since…we all believe firmly that Kumon is the best investment a student can ever make in his own education.

What I appreciate about Kumon is that not only does it focus on number conceptual development, the mastery of basic Arithmetic/Mathematical/reading concepts and the building of a solid foundation, but study with the Kumon Method also develops crucial life-skills.  This includes skills such as being accountable for your own progress, improvement in time management, task completion, perseverance and self-confidence.

As a Kumon Instructor, I reach a much wider “audience” than by being purely a psychologist. I am extending my services to students of all ages and abilities, also uplifting those who cannot afford (or don’t need!) a psycho-educational assessment before they choose to enrol for Kumon... a cost effective, extremely beneficial, holistic programme which can help each student to develop and reach his own full potential and to become independent self-learners!

I have a rewarding and fulfilling career with Kumon. It gives me great pleasure to get many new enrolments through word-of-mouth recommendations…often from students who studied Kumon in their primary school years and are now successful career people themselves!

I have three Kumon centres in the Linden, Parkview and Blackheath areas. I enjoy contributing to my local communities by giving students the opportunity to develop good study skills, a good work ethic and to improve their Maths and English with the Kumon Programmes.

I continuously benefit from new learning opportunities afforded to me by Kumon Education, participating in national and international Kumon conferences. I wholeheartedly agree with our founder, Toru Kumon’s belief that “There is never good enough, there is always something better!”

Popular Questions

Students can start learning with Kumon from age two upwards. We currently have students as young as two years old studying with us, ranging all the way up to those about to go to university; Kumon helps children of any age and any ability. The sooner children begin, the earlier they can start developing skills to gain the greatest cumulative benefit; as soon as you feel your family is ready to make the commitment to long-term study, Kumon will be ready to help you achieve your goal.
Kumon offers much more than extra lessons and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.

As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.
Kumon is a self-learning programme with each student receiving regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, either in the centre or their online class, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.
Both, and every child in between. This is because of our individualised approach to education, which always asks the question: "What is best for this individual child?" Following a diagnostic test, a study plan is set to develop the ability of the child and to progress them beyond the Kumon International Standard (an international approximation of their school level) regardless of their starting point. Kumon welcomes students with special educational needs, gifted and talented children, and all those who believe they can achieve more and fulfil their potential.
As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
