At the Parktown North Study Centre, we strive to develop the ability of each of our students by discovering their unique potential. This is accomplished through the careful planning and purposeful instruction of the Kumon Method. With 60+ years of experience behind the trusted Kumon method, we nurture strong Maths and reading skills, whether your child needs to catch up at school or you want them to get ahead. But the true beauty of Kumon lies in more than just developing Maths and reading skills: we also nurture skills for life.

At the Parktown North Study Centre, we are on a journey to develop a love for learning in our students and the confidence to chase their dreams, with the understanding that they are capable of more than they realise. We believe that failure is not an option: it is necessary for learning. So, we teach our students to find purpose in their mistakes as they continue to grow and learn, getting smarter with each small step and developing resilience that will follow them forever. The aim for every class day is for the students to leave motivated and with a sense of accomplishment.

The centre offers a friendly, welcoming environment where students are encouraged to progress at a pace uniquely suited to their ability. Weekly evaluation of the students work ensures that they are working at a level that is suited specifically to them.

The Parktown North Study Centre is conveniently situated above the Parktown Quarter Shopping Centre, and is surrounded by a number of schools as well as great restaurants, cafes and shops for parents to take advantage of while their children attend Kumon classes.

About the Instructor

My first experience with Kumon was when I worked as an Au Pair for a Kumon Instructor in 2016. Although I didn’t engage directly with the Kumon Method, I saw the incredible impact it had on her children in making them confident, self-sufficient, logical problem-solvers, who could easily tackle any challenges they were given. I saw children who took on new school work with confidence and maturity beyond their years and excelled in all aspects of their school careers. Not only did the Kumon Method have such a positive impact on their academics, but it spilled over into their daily lives.

So, when the prospect arose for me to become a part of this wonderful family in 2019, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to unlock the unlimited potential of students of all ages and abilities. Working in centre and being able to facilitate magic moments and ability development with our students has brought me endless joy. Moreover, I’ve experienced a change in myself and how I work. The Kumon Method has completely transformed my own working manner and thought processes as well as improving my discipline and efficiency.

I love that Kumon is more than just an academic programme and truly is for all ages and abilities – that even as an adult, I can experience a change I never imagined to be possible.

Popular Questions

Students can start learning with Kumon from age two upwards. We currently have students as young as two years old studying with us, ranging all the way up to those about to go to university; Kumon helps children of any age and any ability. The sooner children begin, the earlier they can start developing skills to gain the greatest cumulative benefit; as soon as you feel your family is ready to make the commitment to long-term study, Kumon will be ready to help you achieve your goal.
Kumon offers much more than extra lessons and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.

As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.
Kumon is a self-learning programme with each student receiving regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, either in the centre or their online class, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.
Both, and every child in between. This is because of our individualised approach to education, which always asks the question: "What is best for this individual child?" Following a diagnostic test, a study plan is set to develop the ability of the child and to progress them beyond the Kumon International Standard (an international approximation of their school level) regardless of their starting point. Kumon welcomes students with special educational needs, gifted and talented children, and all those who believe they can achieve more and fulfil their potential.
As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
