About our centre

Kumon Sandton-Morningside is a safe and supportive learning environment that nurtures students’ curiosity through self-learning and embraces challenges with confidence through developing a “Give it a try” attitude to develop their full potential.

We celebrate progress with pride and promote and support a lifelong pursuit of knowledge. The Kumon programme offers step-by-step guidance and encouragement, creating a positive atmosphere where students feel motivated to challenge themselves and take ownership of their studies. We recognize that every student is unique, with distinct needs, strengths, and aspirations, and we tailor our approach to support them accordingly. We adjust the programme to suit each child and their circumstances.

The Kumon program assists in developing excellent study habits in early learners and prepares them for independent learning. Through regular assessments, we monitor each student’s progress and adjust their learning plan as needed. This ensures that they are always engaged and appropriately challenged, making learning a rewarding experience. We believe that every child has the potential to succeed.

Kumon is not just about academics; it’s about developing critical skills for life. As students advance through our program, they build confidence, improve concentration and problem-solving abilities, and enhance their study habits. These skills extend beyond the classroom, preparing them for future challenges.

My centre welcomes students of all ages from 2½ years old to adults. We are situated in the heart of Morningside, Sandton at Rochester Place, block F, on the ground floor with ample, secure parking with access control and I look forward to meeting you and your child.

About your Instructor

I believe that every child has the potential to achieve greatness and through a nurturing and caring environment founded on the principles of the Kumon method, it is possible.

I am passionate about education and committed to nurturing a love of learning. I have been part of the Kumon family for over 15 years and strive to create a positive atmosphere where students feel motivated to challenge themselves and take ownership of their studies.  When asked at age 7 what I would like to be when I grow up, I said “A teacher!”

I'm excited about the possibilities that Kumon offers and I aim to make a positive change in each learner. I really appreciate that Kumon is designed for every student, whether they’re just starting out or already excelling, regardless of age. This inclusivity is exactly what I envision for my students! I truly value Kumon’s small-step progressions. 30 minutes a day adds up to a strong foundation and a confident learner.  I truly believe in the value of Kumon. Kumon is not just about academics; it’s about developing critical skills for life. I want students to be empowered with a strong foundation in Maths and English so that when they complete high school, they have many amazing opportunities for their futures.

Frequently Asked Questions

Kumon is a self-learning programme with each student receiving regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, either in the centre or their online class, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.

Both, and every child in between. This is because of our individualised approach to education, which always asks the question: "What is best for this individual child?" Following a diagnostic test, a study plan is set to develop the ability of the child and to progress them beyond the Kumon International Standard (an international approximation of their school level) regardless of their starting point. Kumon welcomes students with special educational needs, gifted and talented children, and all those who believe they can achieve more and fulfil their potential.

Kumon offers much more than tutoring and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.

As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.

As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
