Our goal at Kumon Strubens Valley is to provide a safe, friendly environment for students to learn. We look at the ability of the individual student and engage them in an active process of learning in small, incremental steps that lead to self-confidence as they master the essential Maths and English concepts they need to succeed in school and in life.

With my team of assistants, we strive to provide the best learning experience for children of all ages and abilities, to develop crucial life skills and a positive attitude towards their studies.

During the lockdown, we supported students in their studies using various platforms and we continue to provide this support as necessary. Now that the lockdown has eased, our Centre has reopened and provides a COVID-19 compliant environment.

Your child will visit the Centre twice a week for about half an hour per subject for supervised studies. They will also receive an appropriate amount of work to complete on a daily basis. The Centre has number boards, multiplication tables and spelling activities to enhance the students’ daily work, with a library to encourage a love for reading. We communicate with parents regularly on their children’s development.

The Study Centre is a short travelling distance from numerous pre-schools, primary and high schools situated in the neighbourhood and is located near the Strubens Valley Library. There is ample parking available in the Strubens Valley Shopping Centre and it has good security. Parents can wait at the Study Centre, or can conveniently shop at Spar, grab a coffee at Wild Bean Café, or even exercise at Curves Gym!

About the Instructor

I opened my first Kumon Centre in 2002.  As a mom of two beautiful children, I first experienced the difference Kumon made in my children’s lives. They excelled in school and beyond, with confidence and a love for learning. I wanted to share this unique learning programme with other children.

Now, more than two decades later, as a Kumon instructor, my belief in the Kumon program is stronger than ever. My passion is nurturing students to be well-equipped for the demands of an ever-changing world.  

Together with my well trained and experienced centre team, we have nurtured many Kumon completers and saw how the Kumon program shaped their lives beyond school. The Kumon method develops life skills of discipline, self-learning, logical problem-solving, and confidence through carefully structured Maths and English worksheets.  

We value creating a nurturing learning atmosphere where each individual child is valued and cared for. Instruction with purpose, love, and care is one of our highest priorities.

Pursuing the potential of each student and helping students to reach their full potential is our main goal.

How long does study take?

Study takes around 30 minutes per subject a day, depending on age and level of the work. Currently, study may be In-Centre and/or at home with online or messaging support.

Students can start learning with Kumon from age two upwards. We currently have students as young as two years old studying with us, ranging all the way up to those about to go to university; Kumon helps children of any age and any ability. The sooner children begin, the earlier they can start developing skills to gain the greatest cumulative benefit; as soon as you feel your family is ready to make the commitment to long-term study, Kumon will be ready to help you achieve your goal.
Kumon offers much more than extra lessons and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.

As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.
Kumon is a self-learning programme with each student receiving regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, either in the centre or their online class, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.
Both, and every child in between. This is because of our individualised approach to education, which always asks the question: "What is best for this individual child?" Following a diagnostic test, a study plan is set to develop the ability of the child and to progress them beyond the Kumon International Standard (an international approximation of their school level) regardless of their starting point. Kumon welcomes students with special educational needs, gifted and talented children, and all those who believe they can achieve more and fulfil their potential.
As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
